This Barbados Map of 1721 is impressive for its detailed information about the men and landowners of Barbados just 100 years after it became a colony of England.

For many modern-day Barbadians, it may give us an indication of where our surnames came from and can help up to understand the vital role of land and sugar in our lives.

Maps such as these can be found on the Boston Public Libraries’ website in the Norman Leventhal collection.  They can be an invaluable resource for understanding the locations and movements made by planter families and those they enslaved.
